About SCORE
The Schools and Communities Organizing for Racial Equity (SCORE) project launched in Providence, Rhode Island in early 2021 with the goals of:
Measuring what matters to students and families of color, students and families experiencing economic hardship, and others most directly impacted by educational inequities in the Providence Public School District;
Helping the school district understand, be responsive to, and be held accountable to community priorities for educational and racial equity; and
Sharing school district progress on community priorities with youth, parents, and other community members.
Parent and student leaders’ ideas, wisdom, and visions for educational and racial equity are the starting points and driving forces of SCORE. The SCORE project brought together an intergenerational Community Research Team of nine youth and parent leaders from Providence. With support from partner organization researchers, this Community Research Team:
Conducted community research;
Identified community priorities for educational and racial equity; and
Identified indicators to measure progress on these priorities.
Providence SCORE Fellows continued the work of developing this SCOREcard tool to bring information and data about the project equity priority areas to the community.
Since the initial SCORE project in Providence, we have worked with SCORE Community Research Teams in Central Falls and Newport, with SCOREcards for each of these sites set to launch in 2025.
